Toddle Trek
fog drenched air
wet gray blanket
covers summer day
sleep dazed and new
young watchful close
mother ‘longside trike
toddle boy racing, full
of morrow vision dreams
quick bird song
falling deep muted
smothered away wet
within blanket gray
hard, in flashes
mother memories now
of other toddle boy
long gone grown
well is to watch close
this shrouded morn
over precious life your own
watch remember well
I would say
could I say aught
to young mother there
verdant memory precious
hold heart close
of this toddle trek,
tomorrow toddle boy
off to college goes
long lost to you
ever more
except in memory
